WATCH: Ole Miss coach Marty Biagi brings the intensity, humor
Ole Miss special teams coach Marty Biagi is quite the character on the Rebel sidelines. The eccentric assistant coach was mic’d up for a recent Ole Mis practice and was quite a bit of fun to listen to throughout the day.
One lineman purposely mis-pronounced Biagi’s name several times and joked around with the coach. But several other players actually didn’t know how to say their coach’s name. So Biagi explained when asked, “It’s Bee-Ah-Gee. Like the rapper. Notorious…” he joked. The players got a kick out of that one.
Ole Miss also posted live footage from special teams practice with Biagi running the show. He even joined in on the action and outshined his own players at certain drills. He seemingly won a punting contest where each person would try and land their punts as close to the goal line as possible without touching it. Biagi kicked one right up next to the goal line on his try and taunted his team.
A few minutes later, he held the ball in place during a successful field goal try. Biagi credited the group for the make, saying that the snap and kick were nice, but the hold was GREAT.
Biagi was also quick to be supportive. He would run up to guys right after the play was over to give a high five or slap on the back. Overall, the video was a nice look into Coach Biagi’s funny demeanor and supportive coaching style.

Biagi Coaching Background
Marty Biagi is a Shelbyville, Kentucky native that started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for Arkansas. He then served as a defensive assistant for Arkansas Pine Bluff, then moved to Southern University to serve as special teams and defensive backs coach. His return units took four kickoffs and three punts for touchdowns in 2014 while blocking a number of field goals and punts. They also had a bazooka-legged punter and were great at limiting long punt or kickoff returns.
Biagi’s dominant unit at Southern in 2014 helped him upgrade to South Dakota, where he was the cornerbacks coach. After one season in that role, he moved on to become a special teams analyst at Notre Dame, where he also spent just one season.
He then moved to North Texas, where he spent three seasons as the special teams coach. In 2020, Biagi finally landed a power five job with Purdue as their special teams coach. But an opportunity to occupy the same position with an SEC school came along after two seasons in West Lafayette and he bolted to join Lane Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss. 2022 will be his first season at his eighth stop over 12 years coaching.
