Early in the game against Alabama, Lane Kiffin is down a weapon at wide receiver. Jordan Watkins got stepped on by cornerback Terrion Arnold after a pass fell incomplete from quarterback Jaxson Dart. It seemed to be in the ankle region, staying down on the sideline.

As the CBS broadcast came back from commercial, Watkins was seen being helped off the field by Ole Miss trainers. Whether or not he went into the medical tent is not known.

Watkins has been a key piece for the Rebels this season, having 24 receptions for 335 yards and a touchdown. If he is not able to return, Kiffin and the offense will have to rely on other skill position players to step up in a big way.

UPDATE: CBS sideline reporter said it’s an ankle injury for Watkins as he is now back in the locker room. No potential timetable to return or possible status was provided.

“For Watkins, it looks like it’s a left ankle,” Dell said.

Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks in locker room early against Ole Miss

Alabama is dealing with an injury themselves. Cornerback Eli Ricks was injured on the very first play of the game, taking a tough hit across the middle of the field. Dell said he is back in the locker room but no specific injury is known yet.

“For Eli, he took that tough hit on the first play of the game,” said Dell. “I’ll keep you posted if I hear more.”

Since Ricks left the game, Arnold has been taking over as the second cornerback. It’s not been pretty for the youngster, with Kiffin figuring out they will be able to throw at him. Alabama will be hoping Ricks can get back into the game as soon as possible.
