Yam Banks injury: Ole Miss DB carted off field vs. Florida
Ole Miss DB Yam Banks went down in the first quarter while defending a touchdown pass to Elijhah Badger and was carted off the field. He grabbed his right knee in the corner of the end zone as Florida took a 7-0 lead over the Rebels.
Banks is in his first year at Ole Miss after transferring from South Alabama, where he put together an impressive four-year run. In 2022, he recorded six interceptions, which was tied for the second-most in the nation that year, while adding a career-high 50 tackles.
Banks entered Saturday’s game with 19 tackles, including two tackles for loss. He also has three passes defended on the year.
Yam Banks was part of a big group of transfers Ole Miss brought in this year as the Rebels looked to overhaul the defense. They took an 8-2 record into Saturday’s matchup against Florida, including a huge victory over Georgia last time out. It was perhaps the biggest win of Lane Kiffin’s tenure in Oxford and kept Ole Miss squarely in the College Football Playoff picture.
It seems like the Rebels have some confidence, as well. Kiffin thinks his team is finding its stride at the perfect time heading into the final two games of the year.

“I think we are peaking at the right time,” Kiffin said. “The last couple of games, obviously the Georgia game, a three-score win and a 30-point win at Arkansas. So I do think that we’re playing really well right now, which it’s exciting to be playing well at the end of the season, at any season, let alone when there’s a new playoff format. So that’s exciting.”
Of course, getting wide receiver Tre Harris back will help Ole Miss’ high-powered offense, led by Jaxson Dart. Kiffin noted Dart’s performance without his top target and how that’ll impact things going forward.
“I think we’re getting stronger, being out there. Tre now looking like he’s ready to go. We haven’t had him for 3.5 games,” Kiffin said. “And over that time I think Jaxson’s led the country in passing without him. So really excited to get the best receiver in the country back.”
