4-star LB Kamar Mothudi commits to Oregon: 'I love it up there'

Oregon was high on the list of Los Angeles (Calif.) Los Alamitos four-star linebacker Kamar Mothudi ever since his first visit in March.
His recruitment blew up from there, but that being one of his first visits, there was something special about it. He came back for the Ducks’ spring game and then again this summer for his official visit. Michigan State gave Dan Lanning and Co. a major run at the end, but on Tuesday, Mothudi announced his commitment to the Ducks.
“I love it up there,” he told On3. “I feel very comfortable there. Relationships have already been formed with coaches, players and other recruits. It is a genuine feeling of home up there for me.”
Kamar Mothudi went back and forth between his top two schools
For some time, it was Oregon and then everyone else for Mothudi, he said. But Michigan State gave him a lot to think about.
“I was waking up for a little while thinking Oregon one day, then Michigan State the next,” he said. “After thinking about it, going back to the pros and cons I had written down about each school, I made the final decision on Oregon on July 1. There was some real competition, and I liked a lot of the same things about both schools, but I just had a better feeling about Oregon.”
Mothudi, the No. 246 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, liked a lot about East Lansing, but his feeling about Oregon’s program and the fact that is only a 90-minute flight for his family to come visit meant a lot. The family atmosphere he felt from the top down played a role as well.

“What I really like about Oregon is how genuine the vibe is — it is about family there,” he said. “I know the coaches and the players care for one another there. That is how the people are there, and that has always stood out to me. Then, everyone has football, everyone has facilities and each school has the fancy stuff to catch recruit’s attention, but it is life after football that also drew me to Oregon. The opportunities after football was a separating factor for me as well.”
Relationship with the coaching staff was pivotal
The Ducks staff had also been recruiting him longer than any other school, and the relationship he built not only with Lanning but also the assistants, made him feel at ease.
“Coach Lanning if my guy. I have good relationships with him, Coach Tosh, Coach Wadood and most of the staff at Oregon,” Mothudi said. “I believe in those guys and they all care about me not only as a player, but as a person. Coach Lanning is a coach I am excited about playing for.
… Once I truly got to meet him, I saw Coach Lanning loves his players, loves the game and loves Oregon. All those things stood out to me.”
