Bo Nix addresses not having a 1,000-yard receiver in his career, how likely it is in 2023
Bo Nix has played college football for a long time now. He started as a true freshman in 2019 for the Auburn Tigers. Ahead of the 2022 season, he transferred to Oregon where he will be a fifth-year starter in 2023.
Despite all that time, much of it which was very successful, Nix has never had a 1,000-yard receiver. This season, he thinks that it’s very possible to have one given the talent he has on the outside. It’s just going to come down to situational football.
“I think they’re all capable,” Bo Nix said. “I don’t think that’s the question, I think they’re all capable, I think they’re all ready for their opportunity. It’s just going to come down to, I think, situational football and which guy gets the targets and which guy gets the explosive plays and the YAC.”
Oregon returns several receivers who might contend for 1,000 yards receiving. Among those receivers are Troy Franklin and Kris Hutson.
“Like I said, they’re all capable of doing that. I didn’t realize there hadn’t been one, especially in my time because I feel like I’ve had some really talented guys. I think it’s just a tribute to spreading the ball around and moving it around, but at the same time each guy, especially this year, is going to have their own strengths.”

One interesting candidate to reach 1,000 yards receiving for Oregon is Tez Johnson. A transfer from Troy, Nix and Johnson had a 1,000-yard connection when they played together in high school. No matter who it is, though, Nix thinks they have a good shot of getting a 1,000-yard receiver.
“So, it’s going to be situationally, who gets those opportunities? Who makes the most out of them? And how can we get those guys the ball and make opportunities for them? Get them open, throw them open, call plays for them, and get the ball to the hot hand, you know? That’s a basketball saying, but it plays a lot in football too. I think some of those backs out of the backfield have a lot of completions too. So, I think it’s just using everybody and one of them will probably do it.”
Bo Nix on his trash talking ability
There are some players who love to trash talk. Others, not so much. As Nix explained, he doesn’t love to start it but he doesn’t mind mixing it up.
“Well, I won’t back down from it,” Nix said. “I don’t really start it but if they want to start it I don’t mind finishing it … Yeah, see, like, I don’t cuss or anything … It’s just I take what they say and just kind of, you know, remind them that we’re still gonna attack them on offense or we’re still gonna go after them. And a lot of times my guys back me up so that’s a good thing.”
