Bo Nix calls Oregon's offensive line success 'huge'

The biggest improvement when jumping from Auburn to Oregon for Bo Nix was the step up in offensive line play. With the Tigers, Nix was often under siege from the SEC’s litany of future NFL pass rushers while his own line struggled to keep defenses in front of them. Not the case in Eugene. Not only is Nix no longer being chased by the Will Anderson‘s and Travon Walker‘s of the country, he’s also playing behind perhaps the best offensive line in the entire country.

Through four weeks of football, that change is drastic for Nix. And he’s extremely grateful for such a sturdy group of blockers leading the way. At a press conference this week, Nix discussed the O-line at length, praising not only their play but their protective mindset toward him.

“I mean, it’s huge,” he said of the O-line’s near-flawless protection. “I mean, the stat’s crazy that we’re the only team that hadn’t allowed a sack. That’s incredible through four games. But it all goes to them. And it’s just, it’s the leadership and the experience we have up front, you know. We have a bunch of protection meetings and we’re all on the same page. And that, I think, has a lot to do with it. But it’s kind of a pride thing up front. They they believe in themselves. They take pride in it.”

The Ducks offensive linemen put their pride on the line…with the result being zero sacks thus far. That’s getting it done up front. Bo Nix then continued his effusive praise of the unit as a whole.

“They are sure to kind of make the right right checks. And if something happens, it’s crazy. Even if the the times that I’ve thrown it and it’s maybe been knocked down, they’ll come back and say ‘man, that’s our bad ,we got to keep you up. And I’m like…that’s awesome that they even think about that, because I didn’t think anything of it. It was just like a play to me. But they take such pride in the little things, that even if I throw it and get knocked down they still take it pretty harsh. So it just speaks to their character and their competitiveness and the guys upfront that we have.”

Sounds like Bo Nix is loving his new offensive line. We’ve seen some QBs across the country buy their linemen watches and steak dinners with new NIL money. Perhaps Nix owes the each member of the Oregon front line a brand new Mercedes considering how well they’ve protected him.
