The Oregon Ducks had a good 2022 season, finishing the year 10-3. But that was not the end goal starting quarterback Bo Nix and crew envisioned. Oregon was on a quest last year to earn one of the four spots in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, the cannibalism of the Pac-12 conference kneecapped the Ducks’ chances of earning a spot.

This year, Nix and the Ducks are driven to compete for the Pac-12 title and earn a spot in the national championship. And Nix, during a recent appearance on ESPN, outlined the challenges Oregon will face in 2023 on the road to achieving their goal.

“Well, you know, we play in a very tough conference. We play a lot of good football teams,” said Nix. “It’s not gonna be easy. The road is going to be filled with many challenges, many great teams, but at the end of the day, we feel like, you know, we can be that team to beat as well and we’re going to be confident going into the season. We just got to do what we do best. We have to be a really disciplined football team, play collectively as a group, continue to grow each and every week, build connection on our team and we know we have a chance to get there along with, obviously, great competition.”

Nix shares goals for 2023 season

Nix enters 2023 as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks — and he’s doing everything he can before the season begins to prepare himself to lead Oregon to massive success.

According to Nix, the Ducks’ goals are to win the Pac-12, then move on to the College Football Playoffs before he heads to the pros. Those are lofty goals, but you can expect Oregon to be in the mix down the stretch every season.

During the same appearance on SportsCenter during Pac-12 Football Media Day, Nix revealed the specifics of his offseason workouts and how he plans to pick back up where he left off after last season as the leader of the team.

“Personally, I want to be consistent like I was last year,” Nix said. “I want to go out and continue to show how I can play from the pocket and make throws, but same time, extend plays and go out there and just do whatever I have to do to make the offense run. I feel like as the quarterback, that’s my job.

“And ultimately move the ball down the field and put my teammates, put my team in the best situation possible to win games. And then, collectively as a team, our goal is to win a championship. Regardless of what kind, we feel like championships will lead to other opportunities for each of us as a team collectively and as individuals.”
