Bo Nix reminisces on decision to transfer from Auburn to Oregon ahead of Heisman Ceremony
When Bo Nix left Auburn a couple of seasons ago, taking his talents to Oregon, many didn’t envision the quarterback to have immense success with the Ducks.
However, he’s proven his doubters wrong, and his supporters right over his time in Eugene. Ahead of the Heisman Ceremony in New York, Nix took some time to explain what went into his decision to move on from the Tigers, a choice that ended up changing his collegiate career for the better.
“After I left Auburn, I just wanted to pick somewhere that had all the resources for me to go and compete at a high level, and I feel like Oregon was the best place, because they had all of that,” Nix explained, via College GameDay. “They had great resources, from administration to coaching, to players around me and to the team that I was going to be playing with.
“I asked myself, ‘Why not Oregon?’ I felt like Oregon was the best spot for me.”
Alas, Nix still has a shot to win the Heisman, even if he’s not the favorite after losing the Pac-12 title last weekend. Nevertheless, it would mean the world to him to win the award. Win or lose, his head will be high though.
“It would mean, I think so much more than I can even probably explain,” Nix said earlier this week. “It’s always been a goal. And like I said, I think the best advice or one of the best (pieces of) advice (is), I have a guy who was early in my career when going over goals and you know, I mentioned the Heisman trophy.
“And I think that that is some of the best advice because it’s out of my control, it’s not something that I can necessarily measure myself. And when you put it in somebody else’s hands … it’s not something that necessarily you can do for yourself or you can work for. So I think goals and dreams can be it’s best if they’re measured.”

Moreover, Nix finished the year with 4,145 yards, 40 touchdowns, three interceptions, a 77.2% completion percentage, 228 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.
“You know, (you measure) with yourself and with your work ethic and with your drive and with everything that you can do,” Nix said. “So like I think that’s one of the most important things that I just keep reminding myself is just to be here is a blessing.
“And, you know, I don’t know what’s going to happen but it would mean a lot to win because you just join, I think, such a great group and I think just to receive that honor, a high accolade and it’s just a really awesome award.”
Time will tell if Bo Nix wins the Heisman, but he’s changed the course of his football career for the better, and much more success could be in his future moving forward.
