Bo Nix had to make quite an adjustment this year, going from Auburn in the SEC to Oregon in the Pac-12 after entering the transfer portal. He’s flourishing in the Ducks’ system — and different defenses could be a factor in that success, too.

Nix is in the midst of an impressive season in Eugene, throwing for 1,809 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 382 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He could be putting himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation as a “dark horse” as a result, and that Heisman hype is why he joined SportsCenter Thursday night.

That’s when he revealed the biggest differences between the defenses he saw in the SEC and the ones he’s seeing in the Pac-12.

“It’s different styles a little bit,” Nix told Kevin Neghandi. “Sometimes, in the SEC, kind of more of a run-stopping league because a lot of the teams focus on running the ball. Out here, you get a little bit softer coverage because teams are kind of explosive in the passing game.

“But at the end of the day, football is football. It gets a lot of the same types of coverage, same types [of] blitzes. At the end of the day, it’s just all about execution from an offense.”

Nix is coming off an impressive showing last week against UCLA, throwing for 283 yards and five touchdowns to lead Oregon to a 45-30 victory at Autzen Stadium. He’ll try to build off that success this week when the Ducks take on Cal.

Bo Nix details what has led to his dominant first half of the season

Nix talked about his improved level of play during his media session after Oregon’s massive 45-30 win over UCLA. He credits it all to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kenny Dillingham, as well as his offensive weapons for making life easy on him and helping his numbers look as good as they do.

“I think it’s just scheme and just the players around me. I think we’ve done such a good job of just running the play that’s called out there. When I’m doing it, it feels like I’m not doing a whole lot because I don’t have to. I just gotta get the ball to the playmakers around me,” Nix said. “Then Coach Dillingham has constantly put us in really good situations.

“We’re really comfortable with the plays he calls. I always feel like we get plays called at the right time. We’re doing great with our shots, explosive plays. And not only that but, when we’re calling them, we’re hitting them.”
