Bo Nix has reserves of fuel for Oregon’s fiery matchup against Washington this weekend. On Tuesday, the Ducks’ quarterback revealed his motivation ahead of the monstrous matchup.

“The way our game [with Washington] ended last year is definitely not how you want it to,” Nix said. “It can serve as a motivator or it can get you down, and, obviously, it’s one I’ve been looking forward to just because of last year and how it ended. But, I think a lot of games you look forward to and I know [Washington is] looking forward to it, as well.”

Washington left a bad taste in the Ducks’ mouths last season. The No. 25 Huskies squeaked out a 37-34 win over No. 7 Oregon, who was on an eight-game winning streak after falling to Georgia in its season opener.

Not only did the loss knock Oregon out of College Football Playoff contention, but it left Nix injured. The standout QB dealt with an injured right foot for the remainder of the season. In the loss, Nix allowed Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. to outshine him.

Penix completed 26-of-his-35 passes for 408 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Nix connected on 19-of-his-28 pass attempts for 280 yards and two touchdowns. Nix isn’t letting the massive rematch get to his head.

“Got to just take it day by day,” Nix said. “It’s gonna be a lot of noise, a lot of hype. But, at the same time, you gotta strap it up and go play football and just do what we do, and they’re gonna do the same. It just turns into a football game but that’s exactly what it is each and every week. Can’t make it too big. Can’t let the moment get too high.

“Obviously, stay off social media, and not watch a lot of TV,” Nix said. “It’s rewarding to play games like this. You do want to appreciate it, and I was just at the house yesterday, watching the game last night, and our commercial came on and it’s like that’s pretty cool. You don’t always get that opportunity. I’ve been able to play in a few, but obviously, each moment they’ve become bigger and this will be a fun one.”

As of now, this matchup will be Oregon’s biggest of the season. Oregon sits at No. 8 in the AP Top 25 while Washington is one spot ahead of them at No. 7. The two teams will square off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
