Bo Nix shares what winning the Heisman would mean to him
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is in the running for the Heisman Trophy but might be a long shot at this point.
The Ducks signal caller had the best season of his career but ultimately fell short of the Pac-12 title and College Football Playoff. Oregon lost to Washington twice this season.
However, Nix still has a shot and it would mean the world to him to win the award. Win or lose though, his head will be high.
“It would mean, I think so much more than I can even probably explain,” Nix said at Heisman Weekend in New York. “It’s always been a goal. And like I said, I think the best advice or one of the best (pieces of) advice (is), I have a guy who was early in my career when going over goals and you know, I mentioned the Heisman trophy.
“And I think that that is some of the best advice because it’s out of my control, it’s not something that I can necessarily measure myself. And when you put it in somebody else’s hands … it’s not something that necessarily you can do for yourself or you can work for. So I think goals and dreams can be it’s best if they’re measured.”
Nix finished the year with 4,145 yards, 40 touchdowns, three interceptions, a 77.2% completion percentage, 228 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

“You know, (you measure) with yourself and with your work ethic and with your drive and with everything that you can do,” Nix said. “So like I think that’s one of the most important things that I just keep reminding myself is just to be here is a blessing.
“And, you know, I don’t know what’s going to happen but it would mean a lot to win because you just join, I think, such a great group and I think just to receive that honor, a high accolade and it’s just a really awesome award.”
It’s been a long road for Nix since his breakout freshman year at Auburn, to his sophomore slump and ultimate resurrection out west. The NFL is next, so don’t mistake a Heisman loss to affect Nix that much.
“I mean, there’s so much to it and but also know that you know, one thing is not going to define a career so you always gotta keep working after that, whether you win or lose,” Nix said. “And you kind of gotta make the most out of it. I’ve just enjoyed the opportunity.”
