Dan Lanning credits Oregon staff for relentless approach
The Oregon Ducks and Dan Lanning are building something special in Eugene, but the coach won’t take all the credit.
The Ducks have been knocking the ball out of the park just about everywhere, from their on-field play to the transfer portal and their recruiting classes. Speaking with the media, Lanning put the emphasis on his assistants, believing their relentlessness has helped him build the Ducks into a well-oiled machine.
“It’s just an everyday approach,” Lanning said. “I think we’ve got a staff that’s been doing this for awhile. Realize it’s not just about the short-term. It’s about being able to do something every single day. Focus on the long-term goals. These guys that we’re going to get are guys that can really enhance what we’ve built and what we’ve established here.
“So having guys that are open to being at Oregon, and realize what Oregon could be, and then having a staff that’s willing to go get those guys.”
Alas, Oregon is once again a destination school under Lanning’s guidance. While they fell short of the College Football Playoff in 2023, it seems like a national title is on the horizon for the Ducks in the future.
Time will tell when they get there. Nevertheless, Dan Lanning has become one of college football’s young stars coaching-wise, and Oregon couldn’t be happier to have him leading their charge moving forward.

Dan Lanning shares importance of getting all commits to sign
Moreover, Dan Lanning has pieced together one of the top recruiting classes in the country through the early singing period. Flipping two prospects on signing day and losing none — the Oregon headman revealed the true significance of signing every verbal commit in his 2024 class.
“I just think it speaks to the consistency of, you know, of our approach, and ultimately, you always want to focus on the guys you get and not the guys you don’t,” Lanning said on Wednesday. “And we did a good job of identifying targets that fit our needs of what we were looking for but also fit our values of what we want in this program.”
Overall, Oregon has the No. 3 recruiting class nationally as of this report, thanks in part to Oregon making those late flips. Four-star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan’s commitment followed by fellow four-star wideout Ryan Pellum‘s now sees him as the Ducks’ third-highest rated recruit in the 2024 class behind EDGE Elijah Rushing (N0. 38 overall) and DL Aydin Breland (46).
This also makes McClellan and Pellum one of four incoming receivers coming to Oregon next season, joining Dillon Gresham and Jack Ressler. The class also ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten, eclipsing Ohio State’s No. 4 overall-ranked incoming class after jumping four spots in the On3 Industry Ranking after the two wideout flips.
