Dan’s brother, Jordan, joined an Oregon Twitter Spaces conversation where people were discussing the idea of bringing Lanning to Oregon as coach. For hours, Jordan Lanning defended his brother as the right fit for Oregon to fans who tuned in to the conversation, leaving a lasting impression on the Ducks’ fanbase.

“So I didn’t know about that,” Lanning laughed about when asked if he knew details about his brother’s appearance on the Oregon Twitter Space conversation. “In fact, we were talking right before I walked in this room and I was briefed on that. And if that got me the job, I owe him somehow.
“But I’ll tell you this, I love my family and I know my family loves me. So that’s exciting to know that he was in there battling for me. I’m learning more and more about these Twitter Space deals. I don’t know a ton about it. I haven’t had a chance to really look up. As soon as I got here and started here in that office I haven’t got to leave much beyond being around our players. So thrilled that my brother could do that, that’s exciting, but I didn’t know a lot about it until just before we came in the room.
“In fact, to build off that, I still haven’t called my parents to tell them I took the job at Oregon yet. So to give you an idea, I’ll be making a call to my brother soon but that hasn’t hit there yet.”

Lanning thanks Kirby Smart
Dan Lanning held his first official press conference as the new head coach of Oregon Ducks football. As he spoke to the media on Monday, he outlined his plan and vision for the program with him at the helm. Lanning also made time to thank those who helped him along the way who helped pave the way for this opportunity. The new Ducks head coach gave a heartfelt thank you, in particular, to his former mentor and current head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, Kirby Smart.
“I was fortunate, in my career, to have so many unique opportunities that also happen to uniquely prepare me for this opportunity, this exceptional opportunity. I want to give a special thanks to Kirby Smart and his wife Mary Beth, at the University of Georgia for believing in me and giving me an opportunity. He was so critical in my growth as a coach and has prepared me for this as I sit here today. Every day as an assistant coach everyday as a graduate assistant and everyday as a recruiting coordinator whatever had a wore I always wore that hat knowing I was preparing for the next job and that’s no different today,” said Lanning.
