Dan Lanning explains his personal appreciation for Oregon's Breast Cancer Awareness uniforms
The Oregon Ducks consistently take the field with unique uniforms and colors every weekend. But this week’s uniforms for their huge top-25 matchup against UCLA represent something more significant than the game. Oregon revealed earlier in the week their uni selection for Saturday’s game, which will have accents of pink throughout it in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. After practice on Tuesday, head coach Dan Lanning explained his personal appreciation for Oregon’s Breast Cancer Awareness uniforms.
“I love the way that we are partnered with Nike and the things that they can develop for us and our team, but obviously, this one has a special place, for me, from a cancer standpoint,” said Lanning. “My wife is a cancer survivor. And I think it’s really special when you have a stage, and you can do it for a special cause.”
Oregon has never been an institution that shies away from uniforms that buck the traditional mindset. They have used all kinds of shades of green, from forest to neon, and rocked metallic and matte finishes on helmets and cleats. But the uniforms they will wear on Saturday might be the most impactful ones to date. And Lanning, along with cancer patients and survivors all over, appreciate the Ducks’ support in this battle.
