Oregon head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks escaped Texas Tech this past weekend with a 38-30 victory. It was a thrilling game that went down to the wire.

And for some in the Oregon community, it felt very similar to last year’s victory over Washington State

“There’s a lot of people that mentioned that game too,” Lanning said at his press conference Monday. “In fact, we’re getting on the plane and Casey Rogers is talking about, ‘hey, this game feels like Washington State.’ He said that and got an interception right afterward. So it’s just really unique how they both play out.

“I think both those games are games where we felt like we hurt ourselves and we were still able to overcome that. But there’s going to be a time when we play a team that we can’t do that. I’m glad our players were really resilient. Each game, each team, each situation has a life of itself, and that game was certainly different, but there are some similarities.”

Oregon won the game last year in Pullman, Wash., 44-41. In both games, the Ducks came back from fourth-quarter deficits to win the game in exciting fashion.

Against the Cougars, Oregon was down 27-15 heading into the fourth quarter. The Ducks then scored four touchdowns in the quarter, including two in the final two minutes of the game to pull out a victory.

This year, Oregon was down just 27-18 heading into the fourth quarter but once again scored four times — two touchdowns and two field goals — in the final 15 minutes.

Quarterback Bo Nix was a catalyst for both of the wins. Versus Washington State, Nix was 33 of 44 for 428 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball in another time for a score.

Nix was 32 of 44 this past weekend for 359 yards and two touchdowns. This time around, he also led the team in rushing with 46 yards although he did not find the end zone via his legs.

His performance this past week also earned him Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his Ducks career.

“We have an unbelievable quarterback on our team that is an unbelievable leader and unbelievable human,” Lanning said after the Texas Tech game, according to the Associated Press. “And he’s a friggin’ ballplayer. Go pull up that film on Bo Nix and tell me he can’t win games.”
