In their game against BYU, Dan Lanning and Oregon broke out a new package from their offensive playbook. It was a big-man package, which included a fullback and extra offensive lineman.

Dan Lanning was asked about the team’s jumbo package during a press conference. In particular, what was Lanning looking for in an extra lineman and how did they find a fullback for it?

“It’s something we’ve carried and worked on,” Dan Lanning said.

“You know, you’ve seen it for the first time really last week, but it’s something that we’ve carried and wanted to be able to use, and we liked the way it looked early on when we used it in the game and it felt like something we can lean on throughout the game,” Dan Lanning continued.

“So, again, Josh [Conerly] is the guy that’s been, you know, he’s grown more and more every single week into a role that we feel like we want to be able to make sure we can get them on the field and use them. And that’s certainly a place that he can help us.”

The process of installing this formation took Oregon all off-season to do. Now that Dan Lanning knows it works in a live-action setting, he’s going to look to unleash it more and more often.

Dan Lanning addressed chants made by fans

While the win over BYU was huge for Dan Lanning and Oregon, it was marred by chants made by a few of the Oregon fans. These chants were targeted at both BYU and Mormons as a whole and were derogatory. Lanning took the time to address these chants, saying he was “frustrated and disgusted” by them.

“Like many of you, really frustrated and disgusted to hear some of the things that were said during the game,” Dan Lanning said. “Got the opportunity to reach out to Coach Kalani (Sitake.) Our athletic director, Rob, got to reach out to their AD Tom (Holmoe) there at BYU and expressed our frustration and also apologized for the behavior of a few that really puts a cloud over a great group.”

“And a really fun situation for our players and our fans on Saturday. That being said, there’s no room for that in our stadium. Anybody that is going to partake in that doesn’t need to be in our stadium. That’s been addressed.”
