The Oregon Ducks are in the midst of a run at the College Football Playoff. However, for now, head coach Dan Lanning is looking to keep Oregon’s focus on the task at hand. This week that’s Arizona State.

With that game on his mind, Lanning shared his impression of the Arizona State offense.

“I think that Kenny [Dillingham] and his staff they can think outside the box,” Dan Lanning said. “Kenny, similar to me, we’re both high school coaches before. When you have different personnel, you try to figure out how you can utilize them the most and try to create something that your opponent hasn’t prepared for.”

Kenny Dillingham, who went to Arizona State, got his start as a high school coach and was most recently the offensive coordinator at Oregon before landing the Arizona State job.

This season, the Sun Devils have been going through a rebuild that has included considerable issues at the quarterback position. In turn, Arizona State was forced to run the swinging gate last week against UCLA. It worked and Arizona State moved to 3-7 with a win.

“Obviously, he was able to put some things on film that other teams hadn’t prepared for, and I expect him to give us some of that too. It’s going to be about us being able to in-game adjust, you know, have a great plan for what he goes out there to execute, but he’s trying to put his team in the best position that can win, and he had some success doing some unique things.”

Despite that creativity, things have been difficult this season for Arizona State this season. The Sun Devils are 128th in scoring offense, averaging just 17.7 points per game. Arizona State is also 107th in total offense, averaging 324.5 yards per game.

Dan Lanning says Bo Nix had a Heisman moment against USC

Last week, Oregon took care of business against USC. That was largely because of the play of quarterback Bo Nix. After the game, Dan Lanning shared that he felt that Nix had a Heisman-worthy game against the Trojans.

“It was fun to sit out there and watch two elite quarterbacks battle it out. Obviously, we’ve got a really special one on our sideline. I think that’s a Heisman-worthy performance from Bo and fun to do it in front of the fifth-largest crowd ever here in Autzen Stadium,” Lanning said.

“I’ll have to go back and watch the film. Just his consistency. To not punt the ball in the first half, I think speaks to his efficiency. Not all of that was necessarily throwing the ball, it’s him, again, getting us into the right run check. Him checking us into proper plays, just being efficient with the ball. I’ll have to go back and watch it to see if there were any plays that stuck out in particular.”
