Dan Lanning is in a unique situation at Oregon. Taking over a team that was loyal to Mario Cristobal, the former Georgia defensive coordinator is attempting to make his mark on the Ducks.

As his roster begins to take shape, Lanning gave an interesting answer on how Oregon is filling holes in their roster.

“Certainly still a little fluid,” started Lanning, in his 2022 National Signing Day press conference. “We anticipate ending up with a couple more guys here today that we’re battling for, that we feel strongly about. That we could end up landing. But ultimately, I don’t know if there’s one position of need. Because you don’t know exactly what position is available, if you know what I mean.

“As things continue to move, shake and shift, I think time will tell what direction we go there.”

As you can see, Lanning recognizes the Oregon roster could look different by the time the games begin to count. Still, he’s not losing sleep over it. In his first gig as a head coach, Dan Lanning is bringing some fascinating strategies to the Ducks.

Lanning on Oregon players returning: ‘I think they recognize what we’re putting together.’

As all college football head coaches today are dealing with players coming and going through the NCAA Transfer Portal, it can be difficult for a coach to maintain continuity on their team. However, Dan Lanning has been able to get some guys to stay put with him at Oregon.

While Lanning had a group of guys make it clear that they wanted to stay and play for the Ducks in 2022, the new Oregon head coach shared what it means to him.

“I’m excited about this team,” Lanning said. “For the players that we have, the caliber of men that we have on this team that are excited to compete. I think they share a vision that I share of what we can be here and what this program can become. I think they recognize what we’re putting together. It’s really special. I want the guys that want to be here.

“I told our players the very first time I met them the reality is we’re going to win with the players that here. The players that are on this team right now. We’re going to continue to focus on the guys that are on this team right now building our success moving forward with those players.”

Evidently, Dan Lanning has already made an undeniable impact on the Ducks. Oregon will be a captivating program over the next couple months.
