Dan Lanning shares excitement to add Jac'Qawn McRoy on offensive line
Oregon has been all over the recruiting trail since Dan Lanning took over the program. There is no country of the area Lanning shies away from considering his SEC roots. The Ducks are going to be looking for the best prospects for their program, no matter what.
One of those was 2024 offensive tackle Jac’Qawn McRoy, coming out of Clay-Chalkville High School in Pinson, AL. Yes, a program known for producing players for the Alabama Crimson Tide or Auburn Tigers, Oregon was able to win out for McRoy.
Lanning was quite excited to have McRoy in the Ducks’ 2024 class, talking about him on National Signing Day. Not much about his football ability was discussed, just about the bright young man making his way to the Pacific Northwest.
“He’s a fun one,” Lanning said back in late December. “He’s got a great personality. That’s a great example on a guy from afar that Oregon was always his dream school and actually started to court us before we started to court him. Then you watch the film and he stands out. He’s one that’s extremely talented.
“I think he’s going to bring an energy to that room and he’s one that every single one of us, once you see him in person, remember what he looks like, and what he can do for this program.”

McRoy played high school football at Pinson (AL) Clay-Chalkville, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 198 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Three other SEC programs were thought to be in the running for McRoy. He took visits to Arkansas, Kentucky, and Ole Miss throughout the process but shut it all down this past summer. Oregon won out in early July and held on until the end.
While the second signing day is just a few days away, Oregon looks primed to finish with the No. 3 class per the On3 Industry Team Rankings. Lanning is thought to be one of the best recruiters in the country and the results are certainly showing so.
McRoy certainly helps the team rating but now that he’s on campus, the stars and high school accolades go away. He has not enrolled in the program quite yet but will be ready to get to work once arriving on campus.
