Ahead of Oregon’s Week 3 matchup with BYU, Ducks head coach Dan Lanning offered new information about the status of wideout Seven McGee and offensive lineman Ryan Walk. Both players sat out all or a portion of Oregon’s game against FCS Eastern Washington on Saturday.

According to Lanning, both likely could’ve played on Saturday but he and the rest of the Oregon coaching staff didn’t feel a need to push it. Plus, the used the opportunity to get reps on tape and experience for some younger players who will take on bigger roles down the line while the starters got back to full health.

“I think both — Ryan is one that we probably could’ve pushed to get out there,” Lanning said. “But I think it was a good opportunity for us to get some experience to some other guys that we wanted to be able to see. Very hopeful that he’ll be back and able to help us this week. And then Seven, I think same thing. You know, knowing we have some other guys that can help us there. But Seven will be ready to go.”

McGee left the game against Eastern Washington after playing 24 snaps with an apparent leg injury. Walk started in the season opener against Georgia but did not appear in the second half with what Lanning said was a foot issue.

Walk suited up, warmed up and did not play this past Saturday. In place of Walk, the Ducks started Marcus Harper.

McGee of course participated, but only briefly. So far this year, McGee has six total touches (two rushes, four receptions) for 22 yards and no scores.

Oregon will likely need both starters back in good health this Saturday when the Ducks host a good Cougars team. BYU is ranked No. 12 after a 2-0 start that included an overtime win over then-No. 9 Baylor in Week 2.
