Dan Lanning shares Oregon's plan for recruiting over bye week
Dan Lanning is hitting the recruiting trail during Oregon‘s bye week. After outscoring their last two conference opponents 84-12, the Ducks head coach revealed his plan for the coming days.
“We’ll have a couple of coaches go out actually out on the road [on Wednesday], and then we’ll have the rest of the staff out on Thursday and Friday this week,” Lanning said.
While Lanning’s recrutiing stretches across multiple classes and positions, not to mention factoring in the transfer portal, one recruit he’s looking to land for this upcoming class is four-star running back Jason Brown.
Brown — the highest-rated running back in the 2024 class that remains uncommitted — was a heavy lean toward Michigan State before the Mel Tucker saga began, but On3’s Hunter Shelton reports that the Ducks are stepping in as the potential new frontrunner to land his services.
Thats just one of many recruiting battles Lanning is trying to lock down before the end of the regular season — and the off week only allows him to be more aggressive.

As the rankings stand, Lanning has pieced together the No. 13 overall recruiting class for next season, per the On3 Industry Rankings. The class includes seven top-200 prospects and 15 four-star recruits.
All of those recruits have visited the program and have been able to see the glitz and glamor of Oregon football — all of which helped out in their final decision to commit. There are other methods Lanning uses, too, as he opened up on one tidbit that helps recruits out before and after each visit — the social media team’s game week recaps.
“I think it can give a little bit of an inside picture of what it’s like to be a player here,” Lanning said. “The inside picture of the excitement that surrounds our team and the fans like our support, obviously, great support last week at an away game. That’s something we continue to expect. But just an inside view. And then obviously at the end of the day, it always helps us in recruiting, it gives a glimpse of what it’s like to be a player here.”
After the bye, Oregon has its toughest three-week stretch of the season with three consecutive matchups at No. 7 Washington, against No. 13 Washington State and at No. 18 Utah.
