Dan Lanning: ‘Stats are for losers, we want to win the game’
Oregon is winning games and in impressive fashion during Dan Lanning‘s first season in Eugene.
The Ducks advances to 8-1 and found their eighth straight victory on Saturday over Colorado, solidifying themselves as one of the team’s to beat in the Pac 12. While Oregon stuffed the stat sheet, Lanning simply doesn’t care — all that matters to him is winning.

“Important,” Lanning responded, asked how important it was to defeat a team you’re expected to win against. “The more points you score, the better chance you have to win. You want to score more than the other team, that’s always our goal. … We don’t care about stats. Stats are for losers. We want to win the game.
“I’m sure our players take pride in it. I don’t want that to come across the wrong way. The goal is to win, the goal is always win. The goal is to meet the expectation for us, what’s our expectation and performance. Sometimes that equates to a lot of points, sometimes that equates to a 15-play drive. But it’s an expectation for performance, that’s the goal.”
Regardless, the stat sheet was still pretty impressive for the Ducks. Bo Nix continued his Heisman campaign, as the Oregon quarterback completed 20-of-24 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns.

Additionally, running back Bucky Irving carried the football 11 times for 120 yards en route to a 49-10 victory for the Ducks.
Now, only three foes remain in the path of Oregon — Washington, Utah and Oregon State. The stat sheet may be harder to stuff against those three opponents, but the Ducks will hope to continue their impressive run moving forward.
Dan Lanting is enjoying fantastic success thus far with the Ducks, and Oregon looks like they’re reborn under his leadership.
