Dana Altman updates where Nate Bittle, Mookie Cook hardship waivers stand
Both Nate Bittle and Mookie Cook were among several players who were injured last season at Oregon. However, each could get an extra year of college eligibility if they receive approval for their hardship waivers from the NCAA.
Dana Altman updated the status on their requests for Bittle and Cook while speaking with the media on Thursday. He said there was nothing new regarding either waiver but that each player is going through with it in hopes of gaining that last year back.
“Just a work in progress,” said Altman. “We’ll see what happens but don’t have any definitive word, anything right now.”
“Oh yeah. Yeah,” Altman answered when asked to clarify that both Bittle and Cook were still applying.
If approved, Bittle would have one more season of after this one. Cook would then have three more following this year with the past one being his first at the collegiate level.

Bittle enters his senior season after missing all but five games last year with various injuries and illnesses. In those outings, he was having his best season yet with averages of 10 points, 4.4 rebounds, and a block on 48.7% shooting from the field. That brought his career numbers up to 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and a block on 49.1% overall through 58 appearances.
Cook also played in just five games after the turn of the year during the conference play in what was his freshman season in Eugene. During those few appearances, he averaged 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds on a field-goal percentage of 60%.
Both Bittle and Cook were Top-35 recruits and four-star prospects in their respective classes per On3’s Industry Ranking. Bittle was the No. 24 player and No. 3 C out of California in 2021. Cook was then the No. 32 player and No. 9 SF out of Arizona from two cycles ago in 2023.
With both players back healthy, Bittle and Cook will try to make an impact in the frontcourt for the Ducks. However, each would have a chance to do so for an additional year after this one if they chose based on the ruling on their respective waivers.
