Dezdrick Lindsay injury update: Dana Altman explains why Oregon forward will miss season opener
The Oregon basketball program added Dezdrick Lindsay this offseason as he came in from Florida Southwestern. Unfortunately, Lindsay will be unable to go on Monday when the Ducks open the season against UC Riverside.
Oregon head coach Dana Altman explained why during his media availability on Thursday.
“Dez is out. He’s got a little problem with his shoulder. So he will be out,” Dana Altman said.
Dezdrick Lindsay came to Oregon after averaging 16 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game last season at Florida Southwestern.
He earned first-team all-conference honors after averaging 18.5 points per game in league play.
Oregon is coming off of an excellent 2023-24 season that saw the Ducks go 24-12 overall. Dana Altman’s team had a strong postseason run, beating Colorado in the Pac-12 Tournament Championship to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
From there, the Ducks upset South Carolina in the first round and gave Creighton all it wanted in the second round, before falling in double-overtime.
Oregon is now moving into the Big Ten where it will look to build on last year’s success and perhaps make an even deeper postseason run.
The Ducks are opening the season with four home games against non-power conference opponents, before facing rival Oregon State in Corvallis on Nov. 21.

After that, Oregon will head to Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival. The Ducks will face Texas A&M in their opening game in Vegas and will then play San Diego State. They are also set to face another tough opponent that is to be determined, depending on how the first two games in Vegas go.
Players Era is an NIL company, and the Players Era Festival will provide “more than $1 million in NIL opportunities outside of competition,” according to a press release.
“Well, it’s a new concept, and it’s changing our game,” Oregon head coach Dana Altman said at Big Ten Media Days when asked about NIL and, specifically, the Players Era Festival.
“But I’ve had to adjust. I drug my feet on it a little bit. I had to realize if I was going to stay in the game that I had to adjust. And NIL is a big part of it. None of us have unlimited funds, and so being part of this tournament helps our collective. We were able to give our players extra money because of the tournament, and it’s just the reality of where the game’s at today.”
