Oregon star quarterback Dillon Gabriel is a long shot to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy Saturday night, but the leader of the only undefeated team in the country believes that he is deserving of the award.

Gabriel joined SportsCenter Saturday morning and was asked why he should win the Heisman Trophy over the other finalists Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty and Cam Ward. He pointed to his entire body of work and ability to win games.

“I’d say it’s body of work. You know, winners win. And I’m a winner,” Dillon Gabriel said. “I love the biggest moments. I love to play on the biggest stages. As a little kid you dream of it. But more importantly, when you get on that stage, who seizes it. And that’s me.”

Gabriel has thrown for 3,558 yards and 28 touchdowns, with six interceptions. He’s also rushed for 192 yards and seven scores.

The former UCF and Oklahoma QB threw for 624 yards and six touchdowns in wins over top-5 teams Ohio State and Penn State earlier this year. While Gabriel is proud of the way he has played this season, he added that it’s been a total team effort.

“I think more importantly, I think I’m just a product of my environment, the guys I’m around every single day. We make one another better, and I’m glad to represent them, but the body of work speaks for itself,” Dillon Gabriel said. “Who’s done what we’ve done this season? It hasn’t happened, and it’s because winning’s hard.

“But I think that goes to show the leadership, keeping people together, and when things get hard who can you count on. And I’ve got the ball in my corner every single play.”

Gabriel and Oregon will play the winner of Ohio State and Tennessee in the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. Gabriel was asked which of the two he would rather play.

“I think there’s pros and cons to both, and I think for the most part that will play itself out,” he said. “How fun is college football now? Not only for the fans but the players, everyone involved. These are the games you dream of, the moments you want to play in.

“I think more importantly, more than anything, is playing in the Rose Bowl. How fun is that going to be? And being able to do that, the history behind that, I’m excited myself to go play in it.”
