Florida State transfer, former Alabama WR Malik Benson commits to Oregon
Former Florida State wide receiver Malik Benson has committed to Oregon, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Benson played one season at FSU after also spending time at Alabama and Hutchinson Community College.
In the 2024 campaign, Benson appeared in all 12 of the Seminoles’ games. He finished the season with 25 catches for 311 yards and a touchdown. He also recorded two rushing attempts and one punt return.
Prior to his time at FSU, Benson spent one season at Alabama, where made 14 appearances and six starts. While with the Crimson Tide, Benson hauled in 13 catches for 162 yards. He had his best showing of the season against Texas when he recorded two receptions for a combined 33 yards.
Benson spent two seasons at Hutchinson CC before transferring to Alabama. While there, he amassed 2,152 receiving yards over two seasons and ranked second in program history with 21 receiving touchdowns.
Additionally, he earned first-team NJCAA DI All-America honors in 2021 after making 43 receptions for 1,229 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 1,229 receiving yards broke Blue Dragons single-season record that had stood since 1970.
Malik Benson played high school football at Lansing (KS), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2021 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Benson chose Oregon over Kansas State and Tennessee. He was ranked the No. 91 wide receiver who entered the transfer portal, according to On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Oregon will undoubtedly be hungry for success in the 2025 campaign. After posting a 12-0 record in the regular season and defeating Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, Oregon fell to Ohio State in blowout fashion in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
As Dan Lanning enters his fourth season at the helm of the program, he will be out for vengeance. With players like Benson at his disposal, Lanning is one step closer to his goal.
The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 7 and closed on Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
