Greg McElroy explains love for Oregon's uniform combinations
The Oregon Ducks have been known for having a near endless number of combinations of uniforms for their football team. That is in large part thanks to Oregon alum and Nike founder Phil Knight, one of the wealthiest men on planet Earth. The Ducks have always had the flashiest uniforms in college football over the past two decades. On his recent “Always College Football” podcast, former Alabama star Greg McElroy explained why he loves the Ducks’ uniform combinations so much.
“Number 5. Oregon’s uniform combinations. Now, I know a lot of different programs have different uniform combinations but Oregon, to me, they’re the only one that actually makes it appropriate. Now, I won’t necessarily go down the rabbit hole that was the 2015 National Championship Game. Where Oregon, their colors are yellow and green. Right?! That’s what Oregon, that’s Oregon’s colors. That’s the Joey Harrington helmet with the O is what I grew up with, I guess, to a certain extent,” McElroy said.
“But when they went out there in the championship game and didn’t wear one spec of green or yellow. That didn’t make any sense to me. They went with silver and white. Either way, they looked pretty clean to begin with. Oregon’s uniform combinations [are] pretty neat. I kind of feel forced to put this on here, because I want to appeal slightly to a younger audience and the swag game is important. But at the same time, it’s not the end all be all. I’ll still love that Oregon was still the first and will continue to have the billion different combinations of uniforms on a year in, year out basis,” McElroy said recently.

Oregon has been a bit of a trailblazer of sorts with their uniform combinations. Many different teams across the sport have tried to create the same buzz with their uniforms, but the Ducks remain the gold standard.
It’s going to be exciting to see how Will Stein works with Bo Nix in the 2023-2024 campaign. Kenny Dillingham did a spectacular job last season and he’s a remarkably tough act to follow. Nix figures to be one of the nation’s leading Heisman candidates heading into the 2023 campaign. After what he accomplished last year, that type of hype is more than well warranted. He was electrifying last season during his breakout year, racking up over 4,000 all-purpose yards and 44 total touchdowns. His 44 total touchdowns ranked him fifth in the country. Nix plastered his name all over the record books, setting the Oregon school record for completion percentage in a single season (71.9).
It should be yet another exciting season to watch in Eugene with Bo Nix under center.
