Houston transfer DL Ja'Maree Caldwell commits to Oregon
Former Houston defensive lineman Ja’Maree Caldwell has committed to Oregon, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.
It’s been a long road to the top for Caldwell. The South Carolina native began his career at Hutchinson Community College. After enjoying success at Hutchinson, Caldwell spent one season at Independence Community College.
He then transferred to Houston. He spent two seasons with the Cougars, making 20 appearances. In the 2023 campaign, Caldwell tallied 26 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
In his two seasons at Houston, Caldwell collected 38 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He is the eighth player Oregon has added in the transfer portal. Oregon currently boasts the No. 17 transfer class, according to On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
Ja’Maree Caldwell played high school football at Newberry (SC), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
