Growing up on the West Coast, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei three-star wide receiver Jack Ressler grew up a fan of the Oregon Ducks. He dreamed of one day playing in Eugene and now that dream has become a reality.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound pass-catcher announced his commitment to the Ducks Monday picking them over Arizona State, Boise State, Oregon State and Penn State.

“Oregon‘s been the school for me from the beginning,” Ressler told On3. “I’ve had a Ducks shirt on since I was probably 10 years old. I did go through the process and was blessed to have many compelling opportunities. That said, I think I made the final decision in my mind about three weeks ago.”

Ressler had several top programs after him throughout his recruitment and took multiple visits. Of the schools he announced as the tops for him, he visited each and even took multiple trips to some.

In the end though, he said that everything always just seemed to come back to Oregon.

“I gave my verbal commitment to Oregon on my last visit,” said Ressler, the No. 1,107 player in the 2024 class. “I was sitting in Coach (Junior) Adams’ office and I asked him if Coach (Dan) Lanning could come in as well. He came in and I let them both know then and was a great moment for me. They both jumped up and gave me a hug. It was like family.”

Ressler acknowledged that other schools may continue to try and recruit him despite the pledge to the Ducks. He may listen but a change in his decision isn’t likely.

“I am committed. Unless there’s a drastic change, I want to play for the coaches of Oregon, Oregon University and its fans.”

What made Oregon stand out to Ressler

Oregon being his childhood dream school did play a role in Ressler choosing the Ducks but other factors also played into the decision.

One of those main factors is the culture Lanning brought to Eugene during the short time he’s been with the program.

“I like the culture that Coach Lanning and the coaching staff are instilling in their players,” Ressler said. “At Oregon, I believe that I will be surrounded by talent that can compete for a national championship. I know that I will learn a lot from the coaching staff and be coached up to be the best that I can be.

“I have no doubt that Coach Dan Lanning and his staff are bringing SEC-winning football to the West Coast. They are all about mentorship and winning – everybody on the team understands their why so I’m going into a team that’s focused. The team has a positive culture and a feeling that everyone wants to be there. All this fits my DNA and I am excited.”
