Report: Jermaine Couisnard injury will sideline key Oregon transfer for 'a while'
With the start of the college basketball season right around the corner, the Oregon basketball team has some unfortunate news. A Jermaine Couisnard injury will sideline the guard for ‘a while,’ according to coach Dana Altman.
Altman informed fans at the team’s open practice on Tuesday evening the guard had knee surgery on Monday.
That news, along with the fact that fellow guard Rivaldo Soares is currently out, was relayed by Oregon beat reporter for The Oregonian James Crepea on Twitter.
Couisnard was an impact addition to the Oregon backcourt this offseason from the NCAA transfer portal, having spent three seasons playing at South Carolina prior to his departure.
The talented 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard has averaged at least 10 points per game in each of his three seasons in college, capable of handling a large workload and putting up big numbers. In his career he has averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Jermaine Couisnard injury comes at rough time
After spending months preparing with the team for the 2022-23 season, Jermaine Couisnard’s injury sidelines him just six days ahead of the team’s season opener.
Oregon is set to open its campaign on Monday at home against FAMU.
The Ducks are looking to bounce back from a bit of a disappointing 2021-22 season in which they missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in four years. Oregon finished with a 20-15 record, including an 11-9 mark in the Pac-12, good enough for a fifth-place finish in the conference.
Under Altman’s leadership, Oregon has reached the NCAA Tournament in eight of 12 seasons, including eight of the last 10.
