JUCO cornerback Sione Laulea of San Mateo (CA) College of San Mateo announced his commitment to Oregon Sunday night.

The 6-foot-4, 190 pounder chose the Ducks over Miami, USC, and Penn State.

“Oregon is an all around sound program from football, to their culture, and even how they carry themselves as men off the field and I have nothing but respect for what they do,” Laulea said. “Along with that, their style of how their program is run is similar to my own JC and it’s helped me thrive so finding somewhere similar in the 4 year level is exactly what the University of Oregon is. Lastly it’s clear that they have a DB factory sending players to the next level with Christian Gonzalez being picked in the first round, along with Khyree Jackson soon to add to their DB Pedigree and I feel like I’m next up!”

His relationship with the coaching staff and their plan for him stood out as well.

“I have a great relationship with many of the coaches on the Staff from Coach Meat, Waduu, Lupoi, and of course Coach Lanning. The coach I would say I’m closest with is Lupoi. He and I share similar backgrounds being from the Bay Area and being family oriented people. Oregon clearly has a thing for lengthy corners and putting them on the outside to press and dominate. Khyree Jackson and others leave after this year and they’re looking for me to come in and make an immediate impact with me being a more experienced JuCo player.”

The Golden State defensive back joins coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks’ top 15 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star cornerback Dakoda Fields, four-star safety Aaron Flowers, and others.

Laulea is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in JUCO.
