Reclassifying Oregon commit Kyler Kasper in 2022 rankings
Four-star wide receiver Kyler Kasper made his fair share of news this weekend. First, he announced his commitment to Oregon. Later on Sunday, On3’s ScoopDuck‘s Justin Hopkins reported Kasper will reclassify to the 2022 cycle and enroll at Oregon this summer.
As a result of the news, Kasper must be moved into the 2022 rankings.
Kasper now slots into the 2022 On300 at No. 219 overall and as the No. 33 wide receiver prospect in the cycle. As was the case with other high-profile reclassifications, like Sonny Styles and Lebbeus Overton, Kasper’s rating of 92 is unchanged when he moves to the 2022 rankings.
The re-ranking football prospects in older cycles is inherently difficult. It requires projecting the perceived trajectory of the prospect’s development. A jump in cycles and subsequent skipping of the senior season certainly muddies the waters in regards to the evaluation. Those factors and unknowns may bring about some variance among different ranges as prospects jump cycles. As a result, we strive to keep the ratings unchanged as the prospects change cycles. This creates consistency amid the moves.

Kyler Kasper gives Oregon jump-ball threat
Kyler Kasper gives Oregon a ball-winner in contested catch and jump-ball situations. He caught 51 passes for 943 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior at Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field. It’s also worth noting that Kasper was older for the class, turning 18 in December. He technically is the same age as 2022 prospects.
Here’s the On3 Scouting Summary for Kasper:
“Kyler Kasper is a contested-catch specialist with the ability to make eye-catching acrobatic grabs. A taller receiver at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds. A bouncy leaper with outstanding ball skills at the catch point. Regularly shows the ability to high-point and box out defenders in jump ball situations. A standout on the 7-on-7 circuit, which favors his skill set. Also an electric dunker and strong high-jumper (personal best of 6-feet, 6 inches ). Has NFL bloodlines with his father Kevin spending a handful of seasons in the league as a receiver and kick returner. Needs to improve his on-field long speed and separation skills. Was older for the 2023 cycle, turning 18-years-old shortly after his junior season, prior to his reclassification to 2022.”
