Mario Cristobal responds to questions about Oregon future, Miami rumors
Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal has been linked to the Miami Hurricanes head coaching position. Miami has not yet fired current head coach Manny Diaz, but all indications point to that happening. Cristobal and Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin have been mentioned as possibilities for Miami. Following Oregon’s loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship, Cristobal addressed his future with the Ducks and shot down Miami rumors.
“I don’t know what you mean when you say someone’s offered (a job). I haven’t talked to anybody,” Cristobal said of Miami rumors. “Let’s not create narratives. As we sit here in this press conference, Oregon is working on some stuff for me and that’s what I have right now. That’s the extent of the conversation.”
Oregon’s loss on Friday night was a disappointing one for Cristobal and the Ducks. It is the second blowout loss to Utah in three weeks. Utah beat Oregon two weeks ago by a 38-7 score. On Friday, Utah won 38-10 to take the Pac-12 crown.
“I would say if there’s something to report, I will report it. I always have,” Cristobal added. “Over the years, because certain things are put out there or not. Every year our entire staff, whether behind the scenes, whether public or not, we’ve always had different people come for our people, including myself, and how the media treats it and how they choose to posture it, I have no control. As I just mentioned, that’s the extent of it.”

Oregon could have an extension on the table for Cristobal
Cristobal deflected a question about whether or not he would entertain job offers outside of Oregon. He instead brought it back to Oregon’s Friday night performance, and said that he isn’t willing to entertain hypotheticals.
“I’m not going to get into hypotheticals,” Cristobal said about whether or not he would entertain other jobs. “We just finished off and we played and coached very poorly and I think you understand I have a job to do. I feel like we’re going in circles with the same answers. You’re going to get the same response.”
While there are rumors that Miami wants Cristobal, there are more recent reports that suggest Oregon has an extension on the table for Cristobal. The money in that extension, if true, is reportedly substantial. Cristobal is a former Miami player, as he was an offensive tackle there from 1989-1992, also serving as a graduate assistant there from 1998-2000. But for now, Cristobal remains with Oregon as the Ducks look to bounce back from another disappointing defeat.
