Mark Wasikowski recognizes Oregon suffered a heartbreaking loss on Saturday, but all hope isn’t lost.

After defeating Oral Roberts by a score of 9-8 in Game 1 of their Super Regional showdown, the Ducks had designs on sending the Golden Eagles packing on Saturday. However, Oral Roberts wouldn’t go down without a fight, as they plated two in the bottom of the ninth to capture Game 2 in walk-off fashion.

Now with all the momentum seemingly in their opponent’s corner, Wasikowski was asked what characteristics he’ll be looking for from his team on Sunday if they’re to move on to the College World Series, and he’s hoping it isn’t any different from what he’s seen all season long.

“These guys are as tough of a group as I’ve ever seen,” started Wasikowski. “So what characteristics would I look for tomorrow when they came out? The same characteristics that I’ve seen everyday I’ve been with them all year. Starting at seven in the morning breakfast, where they show up a half-hour early and don’t miss study hall or class, and they love being around each other. They just, they’re awesome with everything that they do. You know, our pregame work is something that’s amazing. Guys laying out, diving everywhere, crashing into walls.

“These guys are, from a characteristic standpoint, these guy’s makeup is tremendous. So I would expect to see the exact same makeup that I’ve seen everyday at practice and off the field, when they show up tomorrow.”

As for if Oregon will be mentally prepared after suffering the sting of a walk-off loss? Well, Wasikowski doesn’t have a worry about that.

“Absolutely,” Wasikowski answered, asked if his team will be prepared mentally for Game 3. “If they could, they’d play right now.”

Oregon and Oral Roberts has been a heck of a series thus far, but it all comes to a head on Sunday in what should be another phenomenal contest.

More on Oregon Ducks, Super Regional Sunday

It’s Sunday of Super Regional weekend, meaning one thing. A few tickets to the College World Series are going to be punched. Something every team in the country has been working toward all season, a few flights are going to be booked to Omaha in the near future. In what has been an exciting NCAA Tournament, we are nearing the final eight teams.

Two tickets to Omaha were punched on Saturday.  Florida was the first to advance to the College World Series with a 4-0 win and sweep of South Carolina in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Gators were joined as ticket holders to Omaha by TCU, which completed the sweep of Indiana State on Saturday evening with a 6-4 win over the Sycamores in the Forth Worth Super Regional.

To no surprise, weather played a huge factor in the schedule on Saturday. Plenty of games were pushed back due to rain/lightning being in the area. The Hattiesburg did not complete Game 1 on Saturday due to weather. The game was suspended in the fourth inning with Southern Miss leading Tennessee, 4-0.

Everyone will be hoping Mother Nature stays away on Sunday, leaving us with a full, great day of baseball.
