Oregon did what it needed to do by sweeping the Nashville Regional over the weekend. Now, as they prepare to host the Super Regional that they earned the right to, Mark Wasikowski thinks Eugene will be ready to explode in order to support the Ducks this weekend.

Wasikowski spoke about the prospect of hosting the Super Regional at PK Park following their clinching win over Xavier on Sunday. He said their college town is likely about to go crazy as they prepare to come cheer on Oregon against Oral Roberts later on this week.

“That would be awesome,” Wasikowski said. “The people in Eugene are going to go crazy. It’s a sports town. That place is going to blow up.”

“Last time we had a Super Regional at PK Park, we came up a little bit short from a very, very good team. They had to bring in temporary bleachers to where they could bring in 7,500-8,000 people, whatever it was,” said Wasikowski. “It was unbelievable, the environment. People were going nuts in Eugene.”

“I’m sure it’s going to go nuts this weekend if that’s the case and we get a chance to host,” said Wasikowski. “It’s gonna be awesome. It’s gonna blow their minds.”

Oregon opened the NCAA Tournament with a pair of one-score wins over Xavier and then Vanderbilt, the regional host and SEC Tournament champions. Then, in the winner’s bracket, they beat the Musketeers down again in an 11-2 win that clinched their spot for next weekend for just the second time in program history.

It sounds like Eugene might be ready to burst by the time things get going against the Golden Eagles. That leaves it up to Wasikowski and Oregon to give their fanbase a reason to come out and something for them to be excited about with a spot in the College World Series up for grabs.

Wasikowski shares what he’s most happy with during Oregon’s postseason run

After leading Oregon baseball back to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2012, coach Mark Wasikowski is grateful for the support he received along the way. The Ducks breezed through Regional action this past week. They reeled off three straight wins, including one against host school Vanderbilt, to reach the next round.

Former Oregon coach George Horton, Wasikowski’s predecessor, was among those in attendance in Nashville to watch the Ducks advance. Following a clinching 11-2 victory against Xavier, Wasiskowski explained what it meant to have those on-site to watch in person.

“Just happy for the players, coaches. And for Pat Kilkenny and the people that gave us this opportunity,” he said. “Pat Kilkenny, Joe Giansante, Renee Baumgartner. To be able to have George Horton here in attendance was huge. We love coach Horton. I think it was a five-year stretch there were only two teams that won more college baseball games than coach Horton’s Oregon program did. He took a leap of faith to come here with the people that I mentioned. Pat Kilkenny and Joe Giansante and the others. With Rob Mullens and Eric Roedl and that whole crew.”
