Oregon has announced multiple coaching changes from within the program for the 2024 season.

Six assistant coaches have received promotions, including former defensive analyst Brian Michalowski, who will serve as head coach Dan Lanning’s inside linebackers coach next season.

Along with Michalowski, Chris Hampton has been named as the defensive backs coach, along with his co-defensive coordinator duties. In 2023, he served as the safeties coach during his first season in Eugene.

Here is the full list of names and positions that Oregon has filled ahead of next year:

ILB coach – Brian Michalowski
Co-DC/DBs – Chris Hampton
GA (CBs) – Rashad Wadood
GA (OLBs) – Kamran Araghi
GA (OL) – Ryan Walk
ST Analyst – Zach Tinker

Lanning commented on Michalowski’s promotion in a press release on Wednesday, praising him for the job he did as a defensive analyst.

“We are excited to elevate Brian to a full-time coaching role on our staff,” Lanning said. “I have a great relationship with Coach Michalowski having worked with him previously, and he has done a tremendous job since arriving in Eugene. He is one of the brightest defensive minds in college football and a terrific teacher of the game, and he does a phenomenal job of connecting with our student-athletes. We are thrilled to have Coach Michalowski here as we continue to elevate our program and build a championship culture.”

Michalowski has had an interesting journey to becoming a full-time staffer on Oregon’s coaching staff. After graduating from Arizona State in 2011, he immediately became a defensive quality control analyst for the Sun Devils. From ASU, to Wyoming, and even going overseas to coach in the German Football League as the defensive coordinator for the Cologne Falcons.

He eventually met Lanning while the Oregon coach was on staff at Memphis.

“I am extremely appreciative of Coach Lanning for this opportunity,” Michalowski said, via the same press release. “The past year in Eugene has been a tremendous experience for me and my family, and I am so excited for the future as we continue along the path that Coach Lanning has created. Oregon is one of the truly elite programs in all of college football and I can’t wait to work with our student-athletes as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

2024 will be Michalowski’s second year on Lanning’s staff in Eugene. Already being credited with helping coach safety Evan Williams to a team-high 82 tackles and 4.5 sacks, expectations are high for the young defensive assistant.
