Oregon baseball escapes Rhode Island upset bid on extra-inning error in wild finish

Oregon baseball narrowly escaped an upset bid from the Rhode Island Rams on Saturday. The game went to extra innings, but the Rams made an error with their shortstop trying to throw a runner out at first base, sending the ball flying. The error allowed the Ducks to score the game-winning run, and Oregon survived 1-0 in 11 innings.
Dominic Hellman was the batter that drew the walk-off error for the Ducks. It marked the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday night between Oregon and Rhode Island. Maddox Molony finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Oregon. Ducks pitcher Collin Clarke finished with five strikeouts in seven innings of work, bringing home the win.
Jason Reitz is starting on the mound in Game 2 of the doubleheader for Oregon.
In their series opener on Friday, Oregon lost to Rhode Island 12-11. The No. 11 ranked Ducks scored in each of the last five innings, but the Rams’ put seven runs on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. It dug Oregon a hole that was simply too deep to recover from.

The Rhode Island Rams have been scorching hot lately. They scored 36 runs in seven innings on Sunday, coming away with a 36-22 beatdown that resembled more of a football score than baseball score.
