With its quarterfinal exit in the Pac-12 Tournament, Oregon saw its season came to a potential end at the hands of No. 4 seed Colorado on Thursday night. After the game, Ducks head coach Dana Altman had a perfect quote to sum up the season.

After winning its first-round game against Oregon State, Oregon fell to Colorado 80-69 on Thursday. In his postgame press conference, Altman had an all-time quote about the Ducks’ season.

“We had aspirations of going to the Rose Bowl and we’re going to the Weed-Eater Bowl,” Altman said, via Scoop Duck’s Jarrid Denney.

Of course, the “Rose Bowl” refers to the NCAA Tournament and the “Weed-Eater Bowl” is about the NIT. Altman expressed interest in playing in the NIT since Oregon isn’t going to the big dance, so it sounds like postseason could be coming for the Ducks.

Oregon finished the season 19-14 overall and 11-9 in Pac-12 action. That’s the most wins the Ducks have had under Altman since the 2010-11 campaign — his first year with the program. The Ducks now have to wait and see what happens with their postseason hopes.

More on the Pac-12 Tournament

No. 4 seed Colorado was on a mission heading into the Pac-12 Tournament, winning seven of its last eight games. Despite No. 5 seed Oregon proving it can win big games by beating UCLA twice and knocking off USC in the regular season, the Ducks couldn’t outlast a young but gritty Colorado team on Thursday, falling 80-69.

The victory means the Buffaloes picked up a quadrant 2 win and now have a chance to play No. 1 Arizona in the Pac-12 semifinal game on Friday. A victory over the Wildcats would be a key Quadrant 1 win, which would bolster their NCAA Tournament resume. It would also shake up the NCAA Tournament picture, considering Arizona is a No. 1 seed in On3’s latest Bracketology on Friday.

The duo of senior Evan Battey (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Jabari Walker (18 points, 17 rebounds) led Colorado in the opening stanza. Freshman point guard KJ Simpson stepped up under the bright lights coming off the bench, adding 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

For the Ducks, Syracuse transfer Quincy Guerrier carried the load like he has done throughout the year with 25 points and 13 boards.

Colorado now gets ready to take on Arizona, one fo the surprise teams in college basketball this year, in the Pac-12 semifinal. That game tips off Friday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Network.
