The Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has had a wild season by any stretch of the imagination. Before accepting the head coaching position at Oregon, which was unexpectedly vacated by Mario Cristobal in his exodus to Miami, Lanning helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs back to the College Football Playoff as their defensive coordinator. And instead of cutting bait once he took over as the Ducks’ new headman, he elected to finish off the season with Georgia, which ended with the Bulldogs being crowned as national champions of the 2021 season.
During the 2022 Pac-12 Media Days on Friday, Lanning opened up about his ‘whirlwind’ experience rebuilding the Oregon roster this offseason with a limited amount of time.
“Yeah, it’s been a whirlwind, a lot of fun. It’s fun piecing together the talent. Obviously, we can recruit at a really high level,” Lanning began. “It’s also about bringing in coaches that are about relationships and development. I feel really strongly we brought in a great coaching staff that is built on relationships, not just effort, not just a sales pitch. That’s not our approach. It’s built on real relationships. When you have that, I think you can recruit at a high level. Certainly, there’s a lot of pieces that go into being a head coach. You wear a lot of hats. When you have a great team around you, it gives you a chance to be successful.”
Lanning added some solid pieces to what was already an impressive Ducks roster. And plenty of college football experts are enamored with the team he has assembled for 2022. So much so that they see Oregon back in the Pac-12 championship game in December.
