Oregon Football announces 2024-25 dates for Civil War rivalry vs. Oregon State
Big news coming out of the state of Oregon. With the Oregon Ducks headed to the Big Ten next season, it appeared as if their in-state rivalry game with the Oregon State Beavers would be put on ice, with the Beavers remaining in the Pac-12. However, the two programs have worked out an agreement to continue their rivalry series known as the Civil War.
On Thursday, the Oregon football social media page revealed that their schedule had been adjusted to help sustain their clash with Oregon State despite the transition to a new conference home.
“Oregon’s 2024 and 2025 schedules have been adjusted to provide seven home games in each season, and to sustain the rivalry series with Oregon State. #GoDucks,” wrote Oregon via X.
In 2024, the Beavers and Ducks will face off on September 14 in Corvallis, OR. Their following matchup, in 2025, will fall one week later, on September 20, and will take place in the Ducks’ home confines in Eugene, OR.
More on the continuation of the Civil War
Pac-12 insider John Canzano originally broke the news that things were in play to continue the rivalry showdown. There were doubts the game would continue next fall with Oregon’s move to the Big Ten and Oregon State staying behind. However, the rivalry shall continue.
It turns out, this was reportedly a complicated scenario. But all of the involved schools made it work, according to Canzano and the Civil War is on.
“It took work,” Canzano wrote. “Multiple schools were involved, I’m told. Texas Tech helped, for example. The Red Raiders were originally scheduled to play at Oregon on Sept. 7 next season. They’ll instead play at Washington State on that same date.

“Boise State also helped. It was UO’s originally scheduled opponent for Sept. 14. The Broncos State will instead visit Eugene one week earlier. Boise State was originally contracted to play vs. Oregon State on Sept. 7 but will instead travel to Autzen Stadium.”
According to the report, there’s still some bad blood about the breakup of the Pac-12. But, those feelings go away when it comes to money.
“There are some lingering bad feelings about the breakup of the Pac-12 Conference,” Canzano wrote. “Some Washington State and Oregon State fans may not want to see those rivalry games continue. But it’s apparent that the administrators at both ‘Pac-2’ schools see the economic value in continuing to play each other.”
Oregon State AD Scott Barnes told Canzano last week that the Beavers were working on a solid schedule for 2024. He didn’t directly mention the Civil War, but it seemed like that was priority.
“We’ll have six ‘group of five’ games, we’ll have five ‘power 5’ schools, and an FCS that we’ve always had. Some of those are already booked, additional ones will be announced very very soon, and some of the ink won’t be dry on a couple of those,” Barnes said. “It may linger a little further. Until you have the ink dry on the contract you can’t really say.”
