Oregon has been known for having a high-powered offense over the years. While quarterbacks such as Justin Herbert and Marcus Mariota, wide receivers like Bralon Addison and Dillon Mitchell and running backs like Royce Freeman and De’Anthony Thomas have came through the program, the Ducks have made it a consistency to put a successful offense on the field.

As Dan Lanning – a defensive-minded coach – enters his first season as Oregon’s head coach, he is now tasked with making sure the Ducks continue to be successful on the offensive side of the ball. With players such as quarterback Bo Nix, wide receiver Kris Hutson and running back Byron Cardwell all on that side of the ball, Lanning’s squad should be able to rack up yardage and score points in 2022.

As Oregon recently wrapped up its spring practice period, Lanning met with the media following the Ducks’ spring game and explained his expectation regarding the explosiveness of his team’s offense heading into the summer.

“I mean, we want to be an explosive offense,” Lanning said. “I think I’ve said it several times – explosive plays and takeaways are the two main determining factors of wins and losses. That’s something we want to be. … I certainly don’t think we’re there yet, and we’ve got a long ways to go.

“But we took some small steps in the right direction.”

While Oregon was then led by Mario Cristobal, the Ducks’ offense averaged 31.4 points and 423.6 yards per game in 2021.

Lanning breaks down what his next 100 days will look like at Oregon

With the spring practice period officially in the books for Oregon, Lanning met with the media and broke down what his next 100 days will look like as the Ducks head into the summer.

“There’s a lot of pieces, a lot of moving parts,” Lanning said. “We’ll have a recap, basically to where we’ll follow up this spring. Exit interviews, opportunities to enhance and grow. I think our coaches will have a chance to sit down with me and be evaluated. Then, we’re entering an opportunity to get on the road and do evaluations from a recruiting standpoint over the next month-and-a-half – where we get to go out and see prospects that could potentially be Oregon Ducks. That’ll be a big part of it.

“Then, we’ll head right into summer camp. This will be a big phase for us in the strength and conditioning phase where we’ll put on some weight and some mass, build some bulk and strength. And then, obviously, a big recovery opportunity as we work our way into the summer.”
