Oregon head coach Dan Lanning discusses how the Ducks capitalized on trick plays in the first half vs Colorado
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has shown early in his tenure in Eugene that he’s not afraid to take risks and spice things up with a trick play here or there or onside kicks. Ducks’ offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham is one of the bright young stars in the college football coaching ranks and his exciting brand of football has thrived with Bo Nix at the helm. In the first half, Nix even hauled in an 18-yard touchdown catch from Mar’Keise “Bucky” Irving. Oregon was dominant in the first half, leading 28-7 at halftime. During halftime, ESPN’s Tiffany Blackmon spoke with Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning about the trick plays in the first half.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning on trick plays
“I spoke with Oregon head coach Dan Lanning at the break about those unconventional touchdowns, those trick plays. He told me on those plays they just knew exactly what they wanted to do. What it did for them, it created momentum, he said, early on. It gave them some good energy. Now, he said, we just have to go out and play a complete game,” Blackmon said.

Oregon ended up throttling Colorado 49-10 and the Ducks have rattled off eight straight wins since they were humiliated by the Georgia Bulldogs at the beginning of the season, 49-3.
Next week, Oregon will face off against the Washington Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 12. They’ll have to play the first half of that game without their starting safety, Jamal Hill. He was ejected in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Colorado for targeting.
