Oregon quarterback Bo Nix had a rough week one to start off the season, failing to reach the end zone and throwing two interceptions in a 49-3 loss to Georgia. Ever since that game, Nix flipped a switch, and established himself as one of the nation’s top dual-threat quarterbacks. Oregon head coach Dan Lanning used to face Nix when he was coaching for the Bulldogs and Nix was quarterbacking for Auburn, as he spoke about his familiarity with his athleticism.

“Knowing Bo and going against Bo for a long time myself and then coach (Kenny) Dillingham’s familiarity with Bo, we knew how athletic Bo is,” Lanning said.

Lanning and his offensive coordinator may have known about Nix’s running ability, but they could not have anticipated his last performance, where along with 161 yards in the air and two touchdowns, rushed for a career-high 141 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

“He’s really talented, he’s probably as fast a quarterback as there is out there, the guy runs really well and made some really good decisions there on Saturday to put himself in a position where he can run the ball,” Lanning said. But he’s done that consistently this season, so no surprise for anybody in our building.”

Lanning and his squad may not be surprised with the athletic ability he’s put on display so far this season, but he seems to be catching the Pac-12 by surprise as he lead the Ducks to a 2-0 conference record so far and accounted for 760 yards and seven touchdowns in their conference matchups.

Oregon is hoping Nix can continue to be a threat and valuable weapon for them moving forward that could possibly lead the Ducks back to the Pac-12 championship this year in Lanning’s first season as their head coach.

Dan Lanning tells incredible story following Bo Nix’s 80-yard touchdown run

The Oregon Ducks secured their fourth win in a row this weekend as they defeated Stanford 45-27 at home. One of the highlights of the day was when quarterback Bo Nix called his own number on an 80-yard scramble run for a touchdown. Head coach Dan Lanning was asked about Nix’s explosive run and spoke about a running joke he has with him regarding his quarterback’s running ability.

“I gave him a really hard time last week,” Lanning said. “We threw the throwback to Bo on the play at Washington State and I said ‘man I didn’t really expect you to go down like that,’ so I’ve been kind of jabbing him for a long time here, ‘I didn’t realize you were the sliding quarterback type or jump on the ground guy.’”

Lanning is referring to a play the Ducks ran last week when running back Bucky Irving threw a pass to Nix, which he ran for 18 yards before sliding down head first to avoid contact. Nix didn’t slide this time around on his long touchdown scamper, but apparently was a little bit more tired on his more recent play.

“So that run was fun, we got over there, he was sucking wind on the sideline,” Lanning laughed and said. “So he was running hard, he let up a little bit at the end, and their defender came in there aggressive at the end with an opportunity to punch it out.”

Nix finished the game with 161 yards in the air and two touchdowns, along with 141 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He was the epitome of a dual threat for the Ducks, as his performance made him the first 100-yard rusher in a game this season for Oregon. Oregon currently leads the Pac-12 in rushing, with Nix’s legs playing a pivotal part in there run game, but Lanning joked that he still needs to improve a little bit within that area of his game.

“But I’m proud of the way he finished there, might have to just a little bit of extra conditioning for 80-yard runs,” Lanning said.
