Joel Klatt will be 'shocked' if Oregon doesn't make College Football Playoff in 2024
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt would be shocked if Oregon does not make the College Football Playoff in 2024. It’d probably be a failure based on how he described the Ducks.
That’s added to the fact it’s a 12-team playoff next season after being at four teams since 2014. With success in the transfer portal and recruiting trail, Oregon is set up nicely in the Big Ten next year.
Once the Ducks make their debut in a new conference, they’ll be in prime position.
“Oregon is also one of these teams that seems to have a lot of momentum going for next season,” Klatt said on his podcast. “Okay, they get Dillon Gabriel in the transfer portal. They flipped a couple of transfers, an offensive lineman from Colorado that was going to transfer to Colorado they flipped them to Oregon. They seem to I believe, have gotten Dante Moore …
“Their high school recruiting classes have been outstanding. Their youth on the offensive and defensive two deep … is outstanding. Oregon is going to be a playoff team next year. I’m going to be shocked if Oregon’s not in the 12-team playoff.”
Oregon missed out on this year’s playoff due to two losses to Washington in the regular season and the Pac-12 Championship.

However, the team will be in great shape when it comes to the Big Ten in 2024.
“Oregon is absolutely one of the top three teams in the Big ten next year, no doubt about it,” Klatt said. “And by the way, you understand what that means. That means that either Michigan, Ohio State or Penn State has to be No. 4 in the Big Ten. I firmly believe that they are, of all the teams moving conferences, they seem to be the most setup for early success in their new conference.
“Because Dan Lanning has done an incredible job. This guy’s energy, did they finish the right way … A lot of it was just quality play from Washington and a lot of it was to be honest, like not a great plan …”
Essentially, the pieces are in place for the Ducks. It’s hard to replicate Bo Nix’s numbers this season, but Oregon will certainly have a chance with Gabriel under center.
Not to mention Moore transferred in as well, setting the team up for the future. Look out Big Ten, there are some Ducks flying in.
