Oregon football just lost a huge piece of their offensive coaching staff. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Ducks’ offensive line coach, Adrian Klemm, is likely heading to the NFL to join the New England Patriots. Here was Thamel’s report, which he dropped on Monday morning:

“Sources: Oregon offensive line coach Adrian Klemm is expected to leave for the New England Patriots. Klemm is expected to receive a pay raise with the move back to the NFL. He’d served as Oregon’s associate head coach and run game coordinator this year.”

A massive loss for the Oregon offense, especially up front. It’s going to be hard for head coach Dan Lanning to find a suitable replacement. As for Klemm, he’s returning to the professional level after just one year in Eugene, where he used to coach the Steelers offensive line.

A surprise move?

After offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham accepted the Arizona State job, offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was getting looks as well. Specifically, from the New England Patriots, who he eventually joined. However, when New England initially looked into Klemm, Dan Lanning wasn’t terribly worried they’d actually take him.

New England previously interviewed Klemm for both the offensive coordinator and offensive line roles. When Lanning was asked if any kind of decision has been made from Klemm’s perspective, he replied by saying there should be no changes for the Ducks.

“I don’t anticipate any change right now,” Lanning said.

Good thing he added the “right now.” Because just five days later, Klemm is off to the other northern corridor of the United States, now coaching under one of the greatest football minds to ever walk the Earth. Congrats to Klemm on getting a huge gig, but it does leave a massive hole for Dan Lanning to fill on his 2023 staff.
