Bo Nix explains helping Oregon recruit the transfer portal
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix announced earlier this month that he’d be returning to Eugene next season and playing one more year with the Ducks. Nix joined Oregon this offseason via the transfer portal from Auburn, and now wants to do his part in acquiring more talent for the Ducks. Before he made his decision to return for the 2023 season, Nix spoke about helping Oregon recruit players from the transfer portal.
“Yeah, because you always want to leave somewhere better than you found it, and so if I can help Oregon where I’m at right this second, if I can help them sign a guy for next year regardless if I’m here or not that’s a really important thing,” Nix said.
After the breakout season Nix had this year, it shouldn’t be too hard for other offensive players to want to join the Ducks and be a part of their offense that ranked No. 4 in yards per game and No. 9 in points per game nationally. Despite this, Nix spoke on how just his presence alone shouldn’t be the determining factor for a player to transfer to Oregon.
“And you know if that kid’s coming because I’m gonna be here then they’re still going to be here when I leave regardless next year, so they can’t just come because I’m gonna be here. There’s a lot of other things a part of the decision, they gotta come because they feel like they’re a fit to Oregon,” Nix said. “But at the same time if I’m here going through bowl prep and I’m still a part of this team I’m gonna help the team as best as I can.”

Head coach Dan Lanning and his staff will be doing their best to find players in the portal who are the right fit for the Ducks, already receiving commitments out of five impressive transfer portal players, including the No. 3 overall prospect in the transfer portal Ajani Cornelius (according to On3’s transfer portal rankings). Oregon also got commitments out of former Texas offensive lineman Junior Angilau and Alabama wide receiver Traeshon Holden, who along with Cornelius will definitely help Nix and the Ducks offense next season.
Nix doing his part in recruiting is definitely an encouraging sign for the Ducks, but for now his main focus is on their Holiday Bowl matchup versus North Carolina, which kicks off on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET and airs on FOX.
