Oregon Ducks running back CJ Verdell just officially announced that he is declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. Verdell played four seasons at Oregon, but his 2021 season was cut short due to a season-ending leg injury.

Verdell rushed for 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons with Oregon. In the shortened 2020 season, he rushed for just 285 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to his injury this year, Verdell had rushed 78 times for 406 yards and six touchdowns, adding another score through the air.

In his overall career at Oregon, Verdell rushed for 2,929 yards with 27 touchdowns. He also added 610 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Verdell announced his declaration for the NFL Draft in a statement on his Twitter account Monday afternoon.

“I want to start off by first acknowledging and thanking God,” Verdell started. “I know for a fact that none of this would be possible if it were not for His guidance, protection, and favor. Ever since I was a young buck, I have dreamed of this moment. Now that it has arrived, I have to say it feels surreal. There are not enough words to express my gratitude and love for each and every one of my coaches, teammates, trainers, tutors, family, friends, and supporters. You have all made such a tremendous impact not only on my game, but my life.

“The education and life skills that I have learned during my time at the University of Oregon are invaluable and I will carry them with me forever.

“The memories and friendships that I have made over these last five years are ones that I will cherish and carry with me for the rest of my life. With all this being said, I have decided to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Oregon. 7 out.”

Travis Dye stepped up in the hole left by Verdell’s injury. Dye had a great season rushing for 1,271 yards with 16 touchdowns, adding 400 receiving yards.

Verdell is likely to be a Day 2 or Day 3 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in April.
