Paul Finebaum reacts to Bo Nix's transfer from Auburn to Oregon
Former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix announced on Sunday that he is transferring to play for the Oregon Ducks. Nix entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Dec. 13.
Following Nix’s decision to go play for Oregon, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum talked about the move on the McElroy and Cubelic Show on WJOX in Birmingham on Monday morning. Finebaum believes that Nix’s decision could end up being a really good one.
“Even before Bo Nix showed up, that (Oregon) program was in great shape,” Finebaum said. “Mario Cristobal has recruited at an extremely elite level. It’s one reason why he seemed to send indicators that he wasn’t leaving. I think it’s a program, I can’t explain the disastrous finish, but from Bo Nix’s standpoint, I think it’s a really good move. He obviously wanted to be with someone that he knew and felt comfortable with.”
Nix missed Auburn’s final two games due to an ankle injury that required surgery. On the season, he finished with 2,294 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for four touchdowns. In his three-year Auburn career, Nix threw for 7,251 yards, 39 touchdowns and 16 interceptions with 18 rushing touchdowns. The Tigers went 6-4 in the ten games Nix played in.
Nix joins new head coach Dan Lanning at Oregon
Nix won’t be the only new face on the field for Oregon next season. As Nix begins his tenure as Oregon’s quarterback, Dan Lanning will be beginning his as the Ducks’ head coach. Lanning was previously Georgia’s defensive coordinator.

The new Oregon coach signed a six-year, $29.1 million deal to become the program’s next head coach after Mario Cristobal departed for Miami.
Prior to landing Nix in the NCAA Transfer Portal, Lanning talked about his vision for Oregon’s offensive attack next season. Lanning is hoping that Nix, the 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year, can bring some explosiveness to Oregon’s offense.
“Ultimately, I think teams that can have a balanced approach but attacks weaknesses — that attacks every ounce and inch of the field — that’s going to be really important for us,” Lanning said. “The No. 1 indicator right now in college football in wins and losses is explosive plays. We’re going to be a team that’s built off explosive plays on offense, defense, and special teams. You have to be able to push the ball down the field, you have to be able to attack in the air and on the ground. That’s definitely going to be a part of our approach here.”
