Bo Nix is back for his fifth year of college football, once again suiting up for the Oregon Ducks. Famously beginning his career as a true freshman back at Auburn, Nix could have declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and turned pro. Instead, he decided to stick around for another year in Euguene and try to win alongside head coach Dan Lanning.

When meeting with reporters on Saturday, Nix explained his decision to return. He admitted both options would have been great but returning to Oregon gives his the opportunity to go “all-in.” Nix feels as if the Ducks are going to be good this season, even with a tough Pac-12 slate ahead.

“I just wanted to exhaust everything I could in college,” Nix said. “I didn’t want to have any regrets. I was in a situation which was fortunate. Both were great opportunities and both would’ve been great decisions. Now that I chose Oregon, I’m all-in and it’s going to be a great season.”

Nix transferred out to Oregon with low expectations and for the most part, played well. He had a career year, throwing for 3,593 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions while completing over 70% of his throws. A huge step forward from his time on the Plains.

With his return, Nix will be working with new offensive coordinator Will Stein. When the hire was made by Lanning, there had been no official decision made yet by the quarterback. Now, Nix is excited to get comfortable in the new offense and begin to have some fun.

“At the time, I still didn’t know my decision yet,” Nix said. “So after that conversation, I knew we got a good one. Seeing him in person and getting to hear his thoughts and see what he likes from the passing game, run game, and different auxiliary stuff — it’s just fun talking and learning ball with guys like that.

“We’re like-minded, smart, and good guys who want to have success.”

Stein joined the program this offseason after having success at the Group of Five level with UTSA. Nix is getting one of the brightest minds in college football and will be hoping for a terrific final season.

The Pac-12 will sport incredible quarterbacks this year, including reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. If Oregon is going to complete its goals of winning a conference championship and maybe going even further with a CFP appearance, Nix is going to have to better his 2022 season.

Thankfully for the Ducks, he seems up for the task.
