Report: Oregon hiring Josh Jamieson as Executive Director and Assistant Coach

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team is hiring Josh Jamieson as the team’s executive director and assistant coach, according to a report by Jon Rothstein.
Jamieson spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Louisville Cardinals. There, he coached under Kenny Payne for two very difficult seasons, going just 12-52 over those two seasons. Prior to that, however, he was an assistant coach with Oregon.
For 15 years, Jamieson worked as an assistant for the Ducks. During that time, he worked under head coach Dana Altman and Oregon went to the NCAA Tournament eight different times. That included a Final Four appearance in 2017.
An Oregon native, Jamieson got his start in coaching as a graduate manager for the Ducks from 2000-03. During that time, the Ducks went to the NCAA Tournament twice and made it as far as the Elite Eight in 2002. The Ducks also managed to win both regular season and conference tournament titles in what was then the Pac-10 conference.

Jamieson also has stops in his career at Portland and South Medford High School.
Over the past two seasons when Josh Jamieson wasn’t with the program, Oregon hasn’t found the same type of success that it did in previous years. Two years ago, the Ducks went to the NIT for a second straight season. Then, in the 2023-24 campaign, Oregon managed to make it to the NCAA Tournament but only made it to the Round of 32. After going to the Sweet Sixteen twice, Final Four, and Elite Eight from 2016 through 2021, it was a slight step back.
This also comes at a time of change for the Oregon Ducks as a whole. The school’s athletic programs are moving from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten. It’s now one of the premier conferences in all of college athletics, making the level of competition incredibly high. On top of that, for a new team like the Ducks, it’s going to mean preparing for a new set of teams, extensive travel, and more. Having as much assistance as possible is going to be a key to that.
Along with Josh Jamieson, Oregon has four other assistant coaches currently listed on its roster to help get the team ready for the upcoming season. One of those other assistant coaches is Tony Stubblefield, who also previously worked on the Oregon staff and returned to the program over the summer.
